QUAIL Hunting in the Yucatan E-mail

ImageThe black throated quail is found only on the Yucatan peninsula in southeast of Mexico. Ten to twenty five quail are common in one covey. Hunters can expect to see between 20-35 coveys per day.  On some days, under ideal hunting conditions, it is possible to kick up even more coveys. These birds have never seen hunters before and hold well in ankle to shin high grass. Don't think for a second that these buzz bombs are easy shooting.  They will leave you talking to yourself.

Yucatan Outfitters hunts birds over well trained pointing dogs. You'll hunt from first light until around 10:00 am. After the morning shoot,  you'll head to an ocean-front restaurant or to a beautiful beach for a great seafood lunch. After lunch,  you can take a short siesta or go sightseeing in a small Mexican villa.  In the early afternoon,  you'll resume hunting until dark.

To get to the Yucatan, you'll fly into Cancun (easily reached by any U.S. city).  You'll be picked up at the airport and then transferred to the lodge (2 1/2 hour drive on well paved highways). To do away with customs delays and hassles, we have a fine selection of shotguns for you to use at the lodge. There is no need to bring your own hunting guns.

You will want to get to Cancun on the first day by noon or earlier, so to leave time to hunt on the first day. The itinerary will be set up as follows. On the day of arrival you'll enjoy a half day hunt. The next two days will include morning and afternoon hunts. On the last day, you'll enjoy a morning hunt before being transferred back to Cancun.  Many of our guests extend their stays in Cancun after the hunt.
